CARES Grants

The US Department of Education Certification and Agreement directs each institution applying for Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) to comply with Section 18004(e) of the CARES Act and to post the following information 30 days after the date when the institution received its allocation under 18804(a0(1) and updated every 45 days thereafter.

1. Imperial Valley College acknowledges that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and assures that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

2. The total amount of funds that the institution has received and fully disbursed to students from the Department pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $2,497,575.  An additional $2,497,575 was received for institutional use, $1, 237,708 of these funds have been used to disburse additional grants to students.

3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of submission (i.e., as of the 30-day Report and every 45 days thereafter).

6. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. 

• Spring 2020: In accordance with guidance provided by the US Department of Education, Imperial Valley College students were awarded $500 (full-time) and $250 (part-time) if they met the following eligibility criteria:
  
  a. Filed 2019-20 FAFSA reflecting financial need.
  b. Met Title IV eligibility requirements
  c. Actively enrolled for Spring 2020 as of March 23, 2020
  d. Certified existence of expenses related to school closure
  
  
• Fall 2020: In accordance with guidance provided by the US Department of Education as well as the federal court legal injunction on this guidance as of June 17, 2020, Imperial Valley College students previously determined ineligible for aid and enrolled in a minimum of 3 units (at time of determination) were awarded $750 (Pell-eligible EFC) and $500 (higher EFC up to 15,000).

• Spring 2021: In accordance with HEERF II regulations, additional CARES Act Emergency Grants were awarded using CRSSA Act guidance.  Students enrolled in 6 or more units for Spring 2021 (at time of determination) and not concurrently enrolled in high school, were eligible to receive $250 for part-time (6 to 11.5 units) and $500 for full-time (12 or more units). Disproportionately impacted students (previously determined to have exceptional need which include former foster youth, homeless and non-state residents) were awarded $750 for part-time (6 to 11.5 units) and $100 for full-time (12 or more units).

7. Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
