Imperial Valley College Celebrates Spring 2024 Nurse Pinning Ceremony

JUNE 25, 2024

Imperial Valley College recognized its graduates during the Spring 2024 Nurse Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, May 6. The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Dr. Daniel G. Ortiz Jr., associate dean of Nursing and Allied Health, followed by an inspiring opening statement from Dr. Lennor M. Johnson, Imperial Valley College superintendent and president.

“To our graduates, you have mastered a rigorous academic curriculum and shown exceptional empathy and care, the defining qualities of exemplary nursing professionals. As you step into the world with knowledge and compassion, remember that you are the future of health care. Your skills, dedication, and humanity will profoundly impact the lives you touch and the communities you serve,” said Johnson.

The ceremony featured faculty speakers Summer Winford, RN, traditional faculty member, and Teresa Santos, LVN-to-RN faculty member. Class speakers for the RN-Traditional program included Le Lopez, who delivered a speech in English, and Alma Lopez, who addressed the audience in Spanish. For the LVN-to-RN program, Debbie Villa spoke in English, and Marissa Nevarez spoke in Spanish.

The presentation of pins was conducted by Associate Professor Cristal Ramirez, MSN, RN, for the fourth-semester RN program, and Associate Professor Ana Cisneros, MSN, RN, for the LVN program. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was carried out by Rosalba Platero. This year, the ceremony recognized 24 registered nurse graduation candidates and 17 registered nurse graduation candidates from the LVN-to-RN cohort.

Imperial Valley College's School of Nursing has a distinguished history of excellence. Recently, the college announced another year of outstanding achievements, with every student from the fall 2023 Licensed Vocational Nurse cohort passing their NCLEX-PN licensure exam, maintaining the program's 100% pass rate for the fifth consecutive year. This success underscores the college's commitment to providing a supportive learning environment and a comprehensive education that develops qualified and compassionate nurses for the Imperial Valley community.

In addition to educational accomplishments, the Imperial Valley College Foundation awarded $63,000 in scholarships to nursing students this spring, further demonstrating the financial support available for students.

Imperial Valley College remains committed to increasing enrollments for both the LVN and RN programs, ensuring students have ample opportunities to pursue their nursing careers. The college's dedication to helping students complete their programs and secure employment in their chosen fields continues to make it a leader in nursing education.

As we reflect on this year's nurse pinning ceremony, we honor the hard work and dedication of our graduates and faculty, who continue to uphold the high standards of nursing excellence at Imperial Valley College.
